Mountaineering on Mont Barrière
Crossing a frozen lake on our way for mountaineering day 2Cold winds, snow, wet socks. A weekend of mountaineering is not exactly the most comfortable way of spending your 2 days of rest and relaxation. For some of us it's a necessity (preparing for a bigger climb, for example); For others it's a way of living.

For me, I'm preparing for a bigger climb, hopefully of Volcán Cotopaxi in Ecuador this March. Another part of what brings me back are the views and the peaceful mountain. There is something about it that brings clarity to my thoughts and my feelings, to my identity.

Okay so it sounds poetic (or pathetic, you be the judge!), but poets have been inspired by war, peace, love and religion. Beauty is just another reason. Enjoy these pictures from this weekend.

Pathetic!!!

Thats my verdict... but then again your poetic words almost brought me to tears (right before I had to run and take a crap), so maybe I shouldnt complain.

Dude, I got a question... did you take these pics with your Digital SLR...and if so, do you put anything on your camera when u take it out in this kind of weather? Did you ever have any problems with your camera in cold and wet weather like this?

I took those pics above with my compact Pentax Optio S digital. No bag ontop or anything. The battery would die at times and I'd take it out, put it in an inner pocket or on my skin for 5-10 mins and then it would work again.

I think the best setup is to have 2 batteries you can alternate with. That way you always have 1 that is close to heat.
